Paul is the author of the earliest Christian writings we have discovered to date; he is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in the early Jesus movement. At the same time, Paul and his writings have often been the center of controversy and even division in the church and beyond. Thomas Jefferson ridiculed Paul as “the first corruptor;” George Bernard Shaw labeled his writings as “a monstrous imposition;” and Nietzsche simply called Paul, “the Dysangelist.” We will spend three sessions looking at Paul and his writings in an effort to sift through some of his more controversial writings and discover the overall meanings and messages contained in his letters. We will be basing much of our discussion on Garry Wills’ book, What Paul Meant.
Join us in the Parish Hall, Sunday at 9 am.
Parish Town Hall
The Vestry has been charged to offer specific recommendations to address the challenges facing this parish during the upcoming Annual Meeting on January 25. As we prepare for that meeting, we are inviting all members of the parish to join us for a town hall gathering following worship on Sunday, January 11. This will be an opportunity to again cover our challenges and hear the various proposals that the Vestry has discerned and discussed over the past several months as well as their initial response to them. Just as importantly, this is an opportunity for parish members to ask questions and offer their thoughts and insights as to these proposals. This work is essential as we all prepare for the Annual Meeting, so we hope all will join us in our parish hall.
Annual Meeting
As required by the Canons and By-laws of the Church, the Annual Meeting of St. Michael and All Angels will take place following worship on Sunday, January 25. Our meeting agenda will include, among other things, the Rector’s report, Treasurer’s report and submission of the 2026 Parish Budget, and the elections of Junior Warden, Vestry, and our Delegates to the Diocesan Convention (3 elected plus any alternates). These delegates will participate in the election of our next Bishop. Nominations are now open for these leadership positions in the parish. Any nominee must be at least 18 years old, and a member of the parish for at least 6 months. It is especially important during this time that those interested in serving on Vestry be willing to actively lead and participate in the full range of parish life and ministries. Nominations must be in writing, signed by the one nominating and should include a confirmation that the one nominated is aware of the nomination and is willing to serve. Any and all nominations must be received by Father Andrew in the parish office no later than January 21, 2026.
Please do not hesitate to contact Father Andrew or Senior Warden Deann Megonnell if you have any questions. We hope to see everyone there!!
